OXFORD — The 12th annual Oxford Hills Home Show kicks off this week with hundreds of customers expected to tour scores of modular and manufactured homes.

The largest show of its kind in New England brings together three leaders in the modular and manufactured housing business to promote the industry, as well as their individual businesses, under the umbrella name of “Housing Capital of New England.”

Schiavi Home Builders, Twin Town Homes and Turn Key Homes, all along Route 26 in Oxford near Oxford Plains Speedway, will open their model buildings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 26, through Sunday, April 28.

“The customers are back,” said Scott Stone of Schiavi Home Builders on Monday morning. “It’s been a long five years.” 

Manufactured and modular housing is one of the largest industries in the Oxford Hills region, employing hundreds of people. But during the economic downturn in the last five years, it took a hit — as did most businesses.

Stone said that since the economy has improved, he has seen a “dramatic” upswing in customer business at Schiavi Home Builders at 754 Main St.  He expects a great turnout for this weekend’s show.

Potential home builders and buyers, primarily from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, are expected to attend the show. Norway Savings Bank is also returning as the “Signature Sponsor” of the event. Bank employees will be on hand to help potential buyers with financing options.

Twin Town Homes, at 804 Main St., will offer single- and double-wides, in addition to its custom-built modular homes.

Turn Key Homes, at 698 Main St., which builds homes in Maine and New Hampshire, offers a variety of options from start-to-finish construction to anything in between. Turn Key will showcase its homes, including two newly built Keiser modulars.

Stone said customers will be able to see how Schiavi can take the basic modular home and transform it into whatever the customer envisions for their dwelling.

“We’re not just selling modular homes — we’re builders,” he said, pointing to one model that included custom features of carved handrails, granite counters, a bench with hidden storage and pine floors.
