HARTFORD — The Hartford Inaugural Seed Swap will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 27, at the Town Hall on Route 140.
“Seasoned gardeners, amateurs and any in between are invited to bring their surplus seeds and seedlings and see what their neighbors have to offer,” organizer Lee Holman said. She is an organic farmer and chairman of the Board of Selectmen.
Do you want to try a new variety without buying a whole packet? Do you have extra seeds of some variety you think others might enjoy? Would you like to try some hard-to-find heritage varieties? These are some of the reasons to attend, Holman said.
Several experienced gardeners and farmers will be sharing tips on saving seeds, dealing with local soils and making the most of Maine’s climate. Attendees are advised to bring questions, share their own gardening secrets and enjoy the fellowship of others who like to see things grow.
“This is a totally free public event. All are welcome, even new gardeners with no seeds to bring,” Holman said.
