WEST PARIS — Alida F. Blood of South Lancaster, Mass. and recently of Bryant Pond, died April 24, at the age of 90, with her devoted daughter by her side.
Born in Providence, R.I. on July 13, 1922, the daughter of the late Alton and Catherine (Keifer) Verrill, Alida moved to Andover at the age of 12. She graduated from Gould Academy in 1939 and then moved to South Lancaster, Mass. to attend Atlantic Union College, graduating in 1943. In 2010 she moved to Bryant Pond to live with her daughter.
She married Erlon N. Blood from Andover on Sept. 3, 1945 and lived in South Lancaster, Mass., where they raised their two daughters. Alida worked at the Metropolitan District Commission in Clinton for over 30 years.
Alida’s passions were her family, her church and Christian education. In support of that, she had a number of family members living in their home in order to attend South Lancaster Academy and Atlantic Union College. She was a voracious reader, solved the daily crossword puzzle and loved to play Scrabble, frequently winning the game.
Alida is survived by two daughters, Janice Kendrick of Bryant Pond and Sheila Bakland of Ipswich, Mass.; four grandchildren, Thomas and Mark Kendrick and Timothy Bakland and Sara (Bakland) Celiga; four great-grandsons; one sister, Miriam (Verrill) Moore; one stepbrother, Ralph Verrill; and one stepsister, Annie (Verrill) Wiegand.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Erlon Blood; and her brother, Leon Verrill.
