PERU — Three members of the Board of Selectmen were present Monday night and they approved a job description for a secretary to the Board. They agreed for a 20-hour week at $8.25 an hour as a start.
The secretary will work in areas of confidentiality requiring discretion and assemble and organize data and reports. These duties were spelled out more specifically in the job description.
Two people have returned papers. Angela Barkhouse lives on Ridge Road with her husband and two daughters. She worked several years for the Oxford Federal Credit Union and worked twelve years for Bill Porter as an office assistant.
Valaerie Taylor could not be reached by Monday night.
A building permit was revised and approved for Kim Henderson, who had more earth moved than originally planned.
A permit was approved for a wood shed for Mike Desroches on La Croix Road.
Central Maine Power sent the Board a letter stating they were 50 percent done in upgrading their bulk electric transmission system. Selectman Jim Pulsifer said this was not all wind power, but all over Maine CMP is doing on overall general upgrade.
The selectmen signed the appointments that were approved last week for the finance committee for John Witherell, Wayne Moore, Bill Gates, Donald Carver and Larry Abstain.
The Board also approved and signed the warrant for the June 11 referendum and annual town meeting.
The proposed operation and maintenance allocation is $32,200. Last year, it was $34,200. Administrative costs are down from $56,500 to $42,275.
General administration is down from $126,250 to $124,000. Roads are down from $208,170 to $200,000. The budget has been cut in every article.
In public participation, several people questioned why an assessor had to visit a home where a minor repair or addition was added by permit. People thought it was a waste of town money to have permits for small projects.
Pulsifer responded, “This board is trying to address your concerns. Put something in writing and bring it to us to discuss,” referring to changes to the permit ordinance.
