WILTON — Police are investigating the recent theft of two pellet-burning wood stoves from two vacant apartments on Depot Street.

The department received information Monday that the two stoves were up for sale on the front of someone’s property in North Jay within the last week, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said. The informant told them who they thought might have taken the stoves, she said.

Wilton Officer Michael Boucher and Sgt. Todd Abbott started an investigation, scouring North Jay along with the help of Jay Police Detective Richard Caton IV. Police also contacted the property manager, who was unaware of the theft, she said.

The stoves are black England’s Stove Works brand, Summers Heat 1500 model. The replacement value was said to be $1,099 each.

If anyone has information about the stoves or purchased one, they are asked to call the Wilton Police Department at 645-3876.
