CANTON — Selectman Lisa Cummings announced at Thursday’s board meeting that Selectman Scotty Kilbreth has resigned.
Town Administrator Harry Childs said Kilbreth gave a verbal resignation Wednesday.
Childs said nomination papers for the remaining year on Kilbreth’s term will be available May 11 at the Town Office and must be returned by 4 p.m. May 23. The election will be June 11.
Don Hutchins resigned earlier in the year and Shane Gallant’s term is up in June. Rob Walker and Brian Keene have returned papers for the two three-year terms.
The board will meet with the Budget Committee on Thursday, May 16, at the Fire Station meeting room.
Childs was authorized to inform Jay officials that Canton would not renew its contract to truck waste there.
Childs is looking at estimates from Archie’s Inc. of Mexico and Pine Tree Waste for handling waste on-site. Child said he thinks the town could save $600 by using either company.
Containers will be at the Transfer Station for the May 18 and May 22 cleanup days. The board also gave approval for hiring temporary help for those days.
Childs was authorized to buy a new pump for the Virgin Street sewer plant, as they last longer than rebuilt ones.
Childs reported that progress is being made on property liens. The outstanding amount was down from about $68,000 to about $62,000.
