BUCKFIELD — The 50th wedding anniversary of Paul and Shirley Smith of Buckfield was celebrated at Faith Bible Chapel on April 6. The couple’s oldest son, Peter, was master of ceremonies.
The program included the song “O Perfect Love,” sung by Cami Warren. Helen Hadley wrote and recited a poem and Mrs. Smith’s cousin, Lloyd Rowe, played some old favorites on his keyboard, accompanied by his wife, Donna, on the piano. Randy Hooper, son-in-law of the couple, compiled a slide show commemorating highlights from the past 50 years, which was really special.
The couple has three children, Peter and his wife, Julia, and their two children, Nicholas and Madison; Nathan Smith and his wife, Robin, and their two children, Noah and Aaron; and Bethany Hooper and husband, Randy, and their two sons, Levi and Isaiah.
The downstairs was decorated with gold bells, tablecloths, candles, tulips and a yellow and white centerpiece of fresh roses. Brian Hadley, great-nephew of Mrs. Smith, made the beautiful cake, which was decorated with pink roses sprinkled with gold. A meal was then enjoyed by the 120 people in attendance.
Mr. Smith and the former Shirley Warren were married on April 6, 1963, at the Buckfield Community Church. Original wedding attendants present were Clint Holmes, best man, Kathleen Additon, maid of honor, Pauline Jones and Jacqueline Meggison, bridesmaids, Cathy Ann Pratt, flower girl, and Roland Warren and Walter Warren, ushers.
