Neighborly Seniors elect

PERU — At the April meeting the Neighborly Senior Citizens held election of officers for 2013. Connie Tutlis, president, and Marge Harlow, secretary, were reelected. New officers are Morton Frost, vice president, and Eleanor Dunham, treasurer.

The next meeting will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the old Peru school. There will be a speaker.

Tag sale benefits fireworks

RUMFORD — The River Valley Fourth of July Committee will hold a tag sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Marden’s. All donations will help pay for the fireworks.

LEEDS — The Rural Community Action Ministry has recently completed work on its new Senior Residence at 87 Church Hill Road in Leeds.

The public is invited to an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18.

Take a tour of the building and learn more about what the residence has to offer.

Raking bee at Ellis Cemetery

RUMFORD — There will be a raking bee at the East Ellis Cemetery on the Andover Road at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Rain date will be Monday, May 20, at 1 p.m.

Relatives and friends of the cemetery are encouraged to help with the spring clean-up.

Spring cleaning volunteers

RUMFORD — EnvisionRumford wants to thank everyone who made the first annual Island Spring Cleaning held on April 27 successful.

Many hours were volunteered by members of Rotary and the Holy Savior Youth Ministry.

Donation of materials which made the cleanup possible were provided by Marden’s of Rumford, Aubuchon Hardware of Rumford, Mia Purcell, Jack and Charlotte Davis, John and Barbara Bartash and the Kreckel Family. Fryewood Farms in Roxbury provided flowers at a discount, delivered the flowers to the island and helped to plant the planters downtown.

Carlo Puiia, Andy Russell and Public Works put things in place so that EnvisionRumford could get the cleanup accomplished.

Thanks are also given to the merchants and friendly helpers to make the downtown sparkle in time for the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Festival held on May 4.
