RANGELEY — The bodies of two snowmobilers missing since Dec. 30 were recovered from Rangeley Lake on Wednesday morning, the Maine Warden Service said.
Divers recovered the bodies of Kenneth Henderson, 40, of China and John Spencer, 41, of Litchfield in about 60 feet of water after they were spotted by sonar equipment, Maine Warden Service spokesman Doug Rafferty said.
The bodies were found about three-quarters of a mile from where divers recovered the body of snowmobiler Glen Henderson, 43, of Sabattus on Friday. He was found in 135 feet of water about a quarter-mile from shore, Warden Service Lt. Devin Adam said.
The Hendersons are cousins.
Wardens believe the three men were crossing the lake during whiteout conditions and drove into open water Dec. 30. A search for their bodies was suspended in February due to weather and lake conditions, and resumed last week.
“This was a very difficult search due to the recent windy conditions, lake depth and the large search area, which consisted of approximately 2.5 square miles,” Warden Service Cpl. John MacDonald said in a news release Wednesday.
The bodies of Kenneth Henderson and Spencer were taken to Wiles Funeral Home in Farmington.
