PERU — A Dixfield woman was injured in a two-car collision on Route 108 at the intersection of North Main Street and Oxford Road on Monday afternoon.
An eastbound Med-Care ambulance transporting a patient with a non-life-threatening injury was traveling down Oxford Road when a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Marina Slover, 21, of Dixfield pulled into the intersection of North Main Street and Oxford Road and struck the left side of the ambulance, according to Oxford County Deputy Sheriff Sullivan Rizzo.
“The driver of the ambulance said that he was traveling down Oxford Road with his sirens off when he saw Ms. Slover pulling into the intersection,” Rizzo said. “The driver said he threw his sirens on to warn her to stop, but she continued into the intersection, where she struck the side of the ambulance.”
The Med-Care ambulance and Slover pulled to the side of the road next to Demerritt Cemetery. An additional Med-Care ambulance also responded to the scene to continue transporting the patient in the first ambulance.
Rizzo said Slover later complained of back pains and was taken to Rumford Hospital.
Slover’s Volkswagen Jetta received extensive damage to the front end and was towed by Adley’s Auto Sales in Rumford. The ambulance did not have any noticeable damage and was driven from the scene.
