AUGUSTA (AP) — Tuition is going up at Maine’s community colleges.

The Maine Community College System board of trustees on Friday authorized a tuition increase of $2 per credit hour at the state’s seven community colleges beginning in the fall. Full-time, in-state students will see their tuition go up $60, from $2,580 to $2,640.

Tuition for the current school year was frozen at 2011-12 levels.

Trustees say tuition and fees at the community colleges are still the lowest in New England.

More than 18,500 students are currently enrolled in the state’s two-year colleges, which have seen a 25-percent enrollment increase in the past five years.
