MINOT — Preparations for the construction of an addition to the Town Garage are proceeding right on schedule, Town Administrator Arlan Saunders told selectmen Monday.

Saunders reported that last week, Highway Supervisor Scott Parker had ordered lumber for the addition from Record Lumber of Oxford and that delivery was expected any day.

Saunders noted that Record Lumber’s bid of $10,095 — the lowest of three bids received — would keep the project on target financially.

Voters at a March town meeting approved spending up to $35,000 to construct the 38- by 44-foot addition. The addition will house equipment that is currently parked outside. The town highway crew, two of whom Saunders said were excellent carpenters, will supply the labor.

In other business:

* Selectman Dan Gilpatric publicly thanked the highway crew for its efforts in getting town cemeteries in fine shape for Memorial Day.

“The cemeteries looked real good,” Gilpatric said. “A member of the Historical Society commented to me about that and what a fine job the crew had done putting out flags on all veterans’ graves.”

* Saunders noted that the highway crew is still ditching and changing culverts on Holbrook Road in preparation for this summer’s road-paving program, which is scheduled to pave some 3.25 miles along Holbrook, Bailey and Hersey Hill roads.

* Saunders told selectmen that he and Town Treasurer Holly Packard were still reviewing responses to the town’s request for proposals to provide banking services. Proposals under consideration were submitted by TD Bank and Androscoggin Savings Bank.

He said the town had until July to decide which proposal to accept.

* Saunders reported that he had looked into steps the town must take to establish a parking ordinance. He concluded that the Board of Selectmen can adopt a parking ordinance without action at a town meeting.

* Selectman Steve French reported that the latest tests on water from the town well show that the water passes all tests for a public water source, including the test for arsenic content.
