LISBON FALLS — On Wednesday, June 12, David Garcelon will be the speaker at the Lisbon Historical Society. He will give an illustrated talk on early Maine surveyors, the instruments they used and the maps they made.
Garcelon began his professional career as a land surveyor and civil engineer in the New England area in 1963. He has professional surveyor licenses in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Projects he has worked on include the Central Artery and Third Harbor Tunnel in Boston, the Seabrook Nuclear Station and the 10,000 acre Mt. Washington Hotel/Bretton Woods Ski Area property.
Garcelon has lived in New England all of his life. His family came to America from France in the 1760s and were among the original settlers of Lewiston. His extensive collection of historical documents about the Lewiston area and the Garcelon family is now archived at the Muskie Archives at Bates College.
This talk is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the program. The Lisbon Historical Society is located at the MTM Center, 18 School St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The program starts at 7. Parking and entrance is in the rear of the building.
