POLAND — A referendum on the Regional School Unit 16 budget will be held Tuesday, June 11.

The $19.2 million proposed spending plan was approved at the May 15 districtwide meeting, prompting Tuesday’s validation vote at polls in Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland.

Voters will also be asked whether they approve continuing with this two-step process (the district budget meeting, followed by a referendum validation vote) for three more years.

A “yes” vote will require RSU 16 to continue to conduct a referendum to validate the annual budget approved at the district budget meeting. A “no” vote will discontinue the current two-step process for three years and instead allow the annual school budget to be adopted at the districtwide meeting.

Polls will be open in the Mechanic Falls’ municipal building and Poland’s town hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Minot polls will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the town office.

The budget referendum is a straight “yes” or “no” vote and must be approved by a majority of the voters across the district.
