BETHEL — Residents of SAD 44 will go the polls on Tuesday, June 11, to act on a proposed $10.37 million budget for 2013-14.
The overwhelming majority of residents from Andover, Bethel, Greenwood, Newry and Woodstock approved the figure at a meeting May 28.
The amount is 3.82 percent more than this year’s budget.
“I was pleased to see the level of support that the budget received from district residents who attended the public meeting on May 28 and approved all of the . . . budget items,” Superintendent David Murphy said in an email. “I am hopeful that the voters will now validate the action taken at that meeting when they go to the polls June 11.”
Murphy said the district is almost at the lowest amount of General Purpose Aid to Education it can receive from the state, at $704,356, down from the current year’s $879,274.
The budget includes $125,000 for teacher retirement that is usually paid by the state. The Legislature has not yet decided whether to require teacher retirement funds from each school district.
Additional local money required by each town is as follows:
* Andover, up 6.92 percent, or $66,290, to $494,601
* Bethel, up 5.2 percent, or $359,270, to $2,680, 550
