WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will meet for the first time in 2013 at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Old Town House on Keoka Lake. This is the annual meeting for election of trustees.
The program for the evening will be Don Perkins speaking on the subject of barns. His book will be available for purchase through the courtesy of Books N Things, and he will be available for signing. Potluck refreshments will be served.
Teen dance set for June 14
PARIS — A teen dance with music by TJ the DJ will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Foster-Carroll American Legion Post 72, 12 Church St.
Admission is $6. The 20th person gets in free and receives $20. Snacks and drinks available for purchase. Pizza Hut slices for sale. Door prizes.

‘Famous’ chicken pie supper set
BOLSTERS MILLS — The “famous” chicken pie supper will be held Saturday, June 15, at Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church. Seatings will be at 5 and 6 p.m., with a third to follow as needed.
Supper includes chicken pie, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, rolls, homemade dessert and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children under age 12. Handicap accessible, air conditioned.

Swingin’ Bears dance June 15
PARIS — Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club of South Paris announces its June dance to be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St.
Walt Bull of Topsham will be the caller for the square dancing and Sandra Burke of Herman will be the cuer for the round dancing. Esther Tucker, Bill and Rita Laurinitis are co-hosting.
Refreshments at the dances are always served at intermission with door prizes and a Pot O’ Gold drawing. Admission is $6 per person.

ATV Poker run is June 15
WATERFORD — Pulpit Rock Trail Blazah’s and X-tra Mile ATV Club will host an ATV Poker run on Saturday, June 15, starting at 8 a.m.

VFW Post plans public breakfast
HARRISON — The Ronald St. John VFW Post will hold its popular public breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday, June 16, at the post, 176 Waterford Road.
The breakfast features scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, home fries, fruit cups, sweet breads, orange juice and beverage. The cost is $6 per person for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.
Cryptogram contest winner
PARIS — Cassandra McAlister is the $5 winner of Paris Public Library’s May Cryptogram Contest.
June’s cryptograms are ready to pick up at the library’s front desk. This month’s focus is quotes. June’s completed cryptograms need to be in on or before June 29 for the $5 drawing.

OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Talk on one-room schoolhouses
NORWAY — Susan Denison will give a talk on the rural one-room schoolhouses of Norway at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Norway Historical Society, 471 Main St.
Based on research started by the late Richard Durnin in the 1970s, Denison will speak about the history of each of the 14 rural district schools. The first school in Norway was started at a residence in North Norway in 1790 and the first schoolhouse was built in 1794.
The last country school to close was the Lake School, which still stands. It was closed in 1967, at the same time the village one-room schools closed.
Denison will also speak about the daily school life of both students and teachers, as well as curriculum and school administration. Anyone who attended one of these rural schools is especially invited to attend and share their memories.

Clothing shop, food Tuesdays
PARIS — Garments of Praise, a thrift shop for gently used clothing, is open from 1 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday, at South Paris Baptist Church, 1 Park St.
Items include men’s, women’s and children’s clothing for a suggested donation. Donations will be used toward the cost of nonperishable food items which will also be available from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Donations of gently used clothing are being accepted at this location. The current need is for children and youth clothing.

Hartford Church annual tea party
HARTFORD — The Hartford Community Church’s annual tea party will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Hartford Town Hall on Route 140. The theme this year is Cinderella at the Ball.
The cost is $3 per person. There will be the tea party, Cinderella appearance, snacks, many flavors of tea, a silent auction which includes wonderful surprises, a watercolor of bluebirds done by artist C. Alan Ray, toys, jewelry and more.
