LEEDS — The Leeds Historical Society will hold the fourth in its series of neighborhood conversations from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Leeds Community Church, 123 Church Hill Road. These programs have been centered around the town’s various neighborhoods, each of which had its own unique personality. This final gathering will focus on Leeds Center. Everyone is invited to come reminisce about Leeds Center in days gone by.

What do you remember about living in Leeds Center? Where did you shop? Where did you play? Where did you go to school? Everyone has some memories, and we hope you’ll come and share them with both old and new friends and neighbors.

Stores often defined the neighborhoods, and many were also post offices and railroad stations. They were key community establishments, along with the church and school. For instance, Lane’s Store was the gathering place for many in Leeds Center and features in many memories.

For some, the store plays only a minor role in their memories, and it’s the church or Grange that sticks out in their mind. Perhaps you or your family worked at the Corn Shop. Does anyone know anything about the Cheese Factory that used to be in Leeds Center? How about the men’s club?

Maybe your best memories are of the summer afternoons when all the kids in the neighborhood met to play ball in a field, or sliding on the snow covered hill behind the school. Were you part of the first class to go to Leeds Central School? Maybe you remember playing pranks on Doc Russell, or the boy who used to give you rides in his jalopy. Whatever the memories, we hope you’ll join us to share stories of your neighborhood.

People are encouraged to bring photographs and other memorabilia to share during the program. The programs are free and open to anyone, no matter what part of town they called home. Light refreshments will be served.
