Author visit by Tim Caverly
JAY — Maine Author, Tim Caverly will present a special program at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Jay-Niles Memorial Library. It will be the kick-off for the Tween and Teen Summer Reading Program; however this will be an event that will appeal to all ages. The public is welcome.
Caverly is the author of the “Allagash Tails” series of books geared towards the middle grades, but adults will also enjoy the adventures and stories of his wilderness experiences.
What Caverly offers is a dynamic, multi-media presentation that both introduces his books to the audience and provides a presentation about the Allagash, one of the nation’s premiere wild and scenic rivers. It includes music, scenic and historic photographs and stories detailing Caverly’s experiences while living in the woods.
Caverly’s books will be available for purchase.
Community Kitchen events
INDUSTRY — Industry Community Kitchen has planned several summer events.
The Community Garden behind the food pantry has been planted. Residents are invited to stop in, take a look, help with watering (full jugs are available at the site) and join in the summer socials, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 20, July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19 at the garden. Rain location is the town hall.

Library program on Guatemala
WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library will present a program on Helping Hands medical mission to Escuintla, Guatemala at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20.
Wayne resident Alberta Messer, pediatric nurse practitioner, will speak about the medical mission she took to Guatemala last winter. “I went on my first medical mission to the foothills of Guatemala thinking I would aid others in medical need,” she said. “Never did I realize how these humble and giving people served me in more ways than I could have imagined personally, professionally and spiritually.
“I would like to share how our medical mission, providing a variety of health care services in such a setting, met the health, social and spiritual needs of those families we served.”
The program and slide show will be held at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road, in downtown Wayne. The William House is directly across from the library. All are invited. For more information phone the library at 685-3612.
Waffle breakfast aids fuel fund
JAY — The Tri Town Ministerial Fuel Fund will hold a Belgian waffle breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 23, at St. Rose Parish Hall. The price is $5 per person.
The waffles will be served with Maine strawberries and local maple syrup. The proceeds will help keep neighbors warm next winter. All are welcome.
