AUBURN — Gerald F. Robinson Jr., 80, of Otisfield, passed away surrounded by family, June 19, at the Hospice House, following a recent battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Bethel, April 3, 1933, the oldest son of Gerald and Carrie Cole Robinson. He graduated from Norway High School in 1951. He attended the University of New Hampshire, joined the Air Force in January 1955, and was discharged in October 1958. He then finished his degree from the University of Maine in Portland.
He married the love of his life, Madeline (Lynn) Lamb on July 24, 1955 at the Bell Hill Church in Otisfield.
After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked at N.T. Fox Co. in Portland, Yudy Tire in Westbrook, L.C. Andrews in Windham and Farmington, retiring from National Gypsum Co. in 1993, after 24 years as a sales representative for the state of Maine and the Canadian Maritimes. Twice he was the top sales representative for the Boston District and won the presidential award for top sales representative for the United States for the Gold Bond Division of the National Gypsum Co. in 1975.
In 1978, the family moved from Farmington to Otisfield, where they lived for 34 years, until moving to a condo in Auburn in October 2012. While in Otisfield, Gerry was a selectman for 12 years, following many years of service on the Planning Board, budget committees and the Oxford Hills Growth Council. He was a member of the American Legion (Anderson Staples Post, Oxford), National Gypsum Trailblazers and the American Baptist Church.
He loved the outdoors, especially to go deer hunting and fishing and loved all sports in general, but especially his Red Sox. He would daily do the crossword puzzle and read the funnies.
He was a devoted family man and especially took great interest in his grandchildren’s future endeavors, education and career choices.
He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Lynn; daughter, Kathryn Robinson-Chavez and husband, Rob Chavez, of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Stephen and wife, Louise Robinson, of Poland; his three beloved grandchildren, Brian and Lori Robinson and Melissa Chavez; brother-in-law, Mike Record; sister-in-law, Nancy Robinson; sister-in-law, Ruth Watson; sister and brother-in-law, Reta and Don Briggs; and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, cousins and very special friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; in-laws, Chester and Ola Lamb; sister, Ethlyn (Bunny) Record; brother, Dale Robinson; and brother-in-law, Richard Watson.
