WATERFORD – Four summer breakfasts, a 60-year tradition, will again be held at the Waterford’s Wilkins Community House at the foot of Plummer Hill Road next to the Waterford Congregational Church.
The breakfast dates are Thursday, July 4, and Wednesdays, July 17 and 31 and Aug. 14 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. The cost of each breakfast is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 5 to 10 and free for children under 5. The summer breakfast proceeds help with the upkeep of the Wilkins Community House.
The Wilkins House Summer Breakfasts are especially well-known for their freshly baked muffins, but also feature an extensive menu of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, doughnuts, coffee, tea and orange juice.
In addition to celebrating the 60th year, the breakfasts will be featuring Maine maple syrup. The maple syrup is a product of McAllister Farm & Farm Stand in North Waterford. The syrup is a donation by Tom and Lisa Hammett in memory of Tom’s father, Lawton, who loved pure maple syrup.
Workers for a kitchen or dining room shift are always welcome to join the breakfast work crew. Interested volunteers should call Ginny at 583-2729.
While the breakfasts are happening on the main floor, the cool basement of the Wilkins house will be the site of an indoor yard sale from 7:30 to 11 a.m. on each of the breakfast dates. Bargain hunters will find treasures galore, with new items appearing at each breakfast. Proceeds from yard sales go to the maintenance funds for the Community House and the church.
The Wilkins Community House is available for community and private events by calling 583-4673.
