NORWAY — Dora B. Shields’ heart stopped beating on June 20 … A true product of Aroostock County, where she was born in 1914, Dora was resourceful, strong-willed, honest and humble.

Despite a most difficult childhood, she was determined to change her life and so embarked upon a career as a registered nurse after having graduated from the Augusta General Hospital.

It was there her life again dramatically changed, when she met and later fell in love with a young, handsome, brilliant engineer from Scotland, Richard W. Shields. Dick and Dora were wed on Christmas Eve in 1941. In 1950, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Robert, followed by a daughter, Catherine in 1954.

Together, Dick and Dora traveled the world until his untimely death in 1979. For the past 34 years, Dora has pined for her Prince, patiently awaiting the day she would again be reunited with him. She will now rest beside him for eternity at a Peru cemetery.
