PERU — Selectmen approved a permit Monday night for Michael Mickeriz to replace one of two mobile homes on his lot on Auburn Road.
Mickeriz provided a survey of is property that showed the lot is 1.75 acres and the board ruled it was large enough for two mobile homes. He was given a permit years ago for both mobile homes, but since then the size of the lot was questioned.
In other business, a bill for $300 for service to the town’s generator prompted the board to look for a less expensive option.
Margaret and Roy Howes told the board they want a junkyard permit before purchasing the old Diamond mill, and Selectman Jim Pulsifer said he would check with the Maine Municipal Association and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection on the issue.
During the public comment time, a group of residents asked for a copy of the itemized bill from the attorney of former board secretary and Selectman Kathy Hussey.
Last year, the town passed an ordinance barring residents from simultaneously holding an elected office and being a paid town employee, but Hussey’s status continued because the ordinance didn’t say when it was to be in effect.
This year, a civil lawsuit was filed against the town seeking a court ruling on Hussey’s status. In defending the suit, the board voted not to pay for Hussey’s legal representation, and she countersued for recovery of her personal attorney’s fees. The town settled with Hussey by paying her legal costs.
Pulsifer said Monday night the board did what they thought was the least cost to the town, signed off and put it behind them.
Members of the group insisted upon seeing the bill so they could verify it was the same amount that had been paid to Hussey.
Pulsifer said it would not be possible.
