RANGELEY — At their first regular meeting of the new administrative year Tuesday, the School Board welcomed new Superintendent Susan Pratt, new Principal Charles Brown and three new board members.
The new members are Eric Burgess of Dallas Plantation, Joanne Chapman of Rangeley and Nancy Hilliard of Sandy River Plantation.
Acting on Bill Roy’s nominations, the board quickly and unanimously voted in Jennifer Farmer as chairwoman and Michele Elliott as vice chairwoman. Farmer accepted the gavel from outgoing Chairwoman Pam Ellis.
Brown reported he has recently attended two conferences with Pratt, is getting acquainted with people in the system and is looking forward to the new school year.
Pratt presented the board with a plan, which she described as a precursor to some goals she has for the fall. Among the projects planned are a goal-setting meeting with the board; discussions with the board chairwoman to set an evaluation system for the superintendent; defining priorities; and submission of a self-evaluation to the board by the end of November.
She also plans to meet with civic and business leaders, join civic organizations in an effort to share information about the school system and publish an “opening of school” newsletter for the community.
In addition, Pratt submitted Ryan Martin’s name as the search committee’s first choice for physical education teacher. Martin is K-12 certified, and was voted in unanimously for his first probationary year. Pratt added that two bus driver positions and a math teacher position are still posted, but she expects to have candidates to propose soon.
Steve Dudley of the Finance Committee reported that the school seemed to be doing very well closing out the school year, and to be in good shape for starting up the new year. He noted that the override of the governor’s veto had given the district $31,000 it was not expecting.
Before adjournment, the board voted to go into executive session to discuss employee duties, and negotiations on the teachers’ contract.
