LEWISTON — Odelle Bowman, executive director of L/A Arts since 2011, announced Thursday she was parting company with the group.
“It’s all good, and I have nothing bad to say,” Bowman said. “But the organization has ideas for the future and I have ideas and sometimes they are a little bit different.”
Board member Michael Dostie said the board of directors had scheduled meetings on Thursday and Friday to discuss the future of the organization and Bowman’s departure.
“I can’t speak too much about the meetings because we have not had them yet,” Dostie said Thursday. “We are going to be talking about the direction L/A Arts is heading in and how we are going to continue to fulfill our mission and serve the community.”
Bowman came to L/A Arts in March 2011. Before that, she was executive director for 16 years at A Company of Girls, an after-school theater-and-arts program for Portland-area low-income, high-risk and special needs girls.
She founded and has co-produced the Cassandra Project, a women’s performing arts festival in Portland. She also founded and produced the Maine Women and Girls Film Festival and was director of the Maine Humanities program, “Girls Going Places.”
During her tenure at L/A Arts, the organization established Arts and Culture Lewiston Auburn and the February event ICEfest L/A and helped popularize the Friday night art walks in downtown Lewiston-Auburn.
