Fred Dearnley  “Fern Series #3” – archival inkjet print, 13×19”  (2009)

KINGFIELD — The Stadler Gallery has announced the exhibits of Fred Dearnley of New Vineyard, and Lucia Swallow of Farmington, will be on view daily from noon to 4 p.m. and by appointment from Aug. 3 to 22. There will be a reception for the artists from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10.

Dearnley’s exhibit of photographs entitled “Talking to the Universe” is a visual conversation about his understanding of the physical world and how he relates to it. He has always been interested in the way we see, what kind of images we are attracted to, and the interrelationship between form and function. As a tool to decode the landscape, Dearnley uses his camera.

Dearnley has been a photographer for 40 years and taught photography for the past 30 years. After graduating from Unity College with a degree in wildlife science, he worked as a marine biologist.

Being drawn to mountains and rivers, wildflowers and charming old buildings, Swallow set out to capture the beauty of the four seasons in Maine and New England which led to the series of “Autumn: Abandoned Barns” currently on view. After exploring various mediums including water color, oil, acrylic and chalk pastel, she chose the latter to capture colors, reflections, light and shadow unique to the ambience of an early evening in autumn.

Swallow studied art through courses at the University of Maine in Farmington where she worked as a licensed clinical counselor. Her course work included painting, drawing, sculpture, pottery, photography and art history. Additional workshops have enriched her studies.

Stadler Gallery is at 225 Main Street. For more information, visit www.stadlergallery.com.
