OXFORD — The Oxford Hills School District Board of Directors unanimously re-elected Ron Kugell as chairman Monday night.

Donald Gouin of Norway made the motion.

“When you have a winning team, you don’t change the lineup,” Gouin said.

Kugell, of Oxford, has served as chairman for many years. He said he is pleased to work with a board that respected each others’ opinions, even if they differ, and who come together as a board after those diverse opinions are expressed.

“I appreciate what a great board it is to work with,” he said. “If the board wasn’t so good, I wouldn’t be on it.”

According to board policy, a chairman and vice chairman must be elected after the last regular town meeting of the eight district towns. Those meetings occurred in June.

The board also re-elected Don Ware of Norway as vice chairman.

In other business, the directors received an update on Oxford Hills Middle School’s Madison Avenue site in Oxford. In March, directors approved leasing the building to ease overcrowding at the Pine Street school in Paris, rather than replace or repair seven portables there.

Principal Troy Eastman told directors the portables have been emptied and are scheduled to leave Pine Street this week.

SAD 17 Superintendent Rick Colpitts said teachers have been working on curriculum for the students who will be attending the two middle schools this fall. The Oxford building, which the district is leasing from Bob Bahre, has been cleared. Work will begin shortly to prepare it for classrooms.
