FARMINGTON — A local woman was injured Wednesday morning when a piece of a broken manhole cover flew into the windshield of her car on Routes 2 and 4, Farmington police Officer Ryan Rosie said.
Sierra McGraw, 27, suffered superficial cuts and an abrasion from her seat belt, he said. She was checked by a NorthStar ambulance crew at the scene, but was not transported.
Rosie said a tractor-trailer truck went over the sewer manhole cover, breaking it. A piece skidded across the tar, leaving marks, and flew into the windshield and door post of McGraw’s oncoming Dodge Caliber at about 7:30 a.m.
The tractor-trailer driver continued on, probably having no idea what happened, Rosie said.
The Farmington Sewer Department finished maintenance work on the manhole within the past couple weeks and was called to cover it.
McGraw’s vehicle was hauled from the scene by Bryan’s Autobody. Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue, NorthStar Ambulance and Farmington police assisted at the scene.
