DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Main Street Outdoor Market will enhance the area dedicated to children’s activities after receiving two cash donations, according to Deb Morang, a member of the organizing committee.

Morang said Irving Forest Products and Bangor Savings Bank of Dixfield donated an undisclosed amount of cash to the committee. The money will upgrade the children’s area across from the Village Green.

“We’re going to rent a bounce house for the kids to jump in for the day,” Morang said. “The Dirigo Class of 2015 will be monitoring and advising the kids. We’re also coming up with some carnival-like games for kids to do, such as darts and ring tosses.”

The Outdoor Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. Booth spaces are available for $20. Each space is approximately 10 by 15 feet.

The bounce house and carnival games are new endeavors for the committee, Morang said. “We couldn’t have done it without the donations we received,” she said.

Morang said she has been a member of the Dixfield Main Street Outdoor Market Committee for “four or five years” and enjoys putting the time into the event.

“I consider it my civic duty,” she said. “Plus, we’re always looking for more committee members to join. We always say, ‘The more, the merrier.’ The more heads we have put together, the more we get done.”

The Outdoor Market will also feature a 5K road race, led by Gunner Bradbury, the coach of Dirigo High School’s cross country team.

“I’m a runner and the cross country coach at Dirigo, so I thought I’d take it over,” Bradbury said.

The race registration is $20 the day of the event, and $15 in advance. All money raised will go toward a strength and conditioning summer program for athletes that Bradbury runs in the fields next to Dirigo High School.

Beginning at Cement Street and ending on Main Street, the race is 3.1 miles and will begin at 9 a.m.

Bradbury added that a free children’s fun run will begin at the same time and will be a mile long.

The Outdoor Market Committee currently consists of Morang, William DeVries, Norine Clarke, Louise Richard and Nancy Volkernick.
