RUMFORD — The Rumford Riders ATV Club will host its first benefit ride at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 28, at the Roxbury Park-and-Ride.

A third of the proceeds will benefit area recreation projects, including Black Mountain Ski Resort, Dick Theriault, vice president and trailmaster, said Thursday. This is the first benefit ride since the club was formed last year and nonmembers are invited to participate, he said.

“Normally, we do club rides, in which members of the club will come out to ride,” Theriault said, “but we decided to do something different this year. Anybody who wants to ride with us is welcome; you don’t have to be a member of a club to come.”

Theriault said the cost is $5 per person and registration will begin at 8 a.m., with riders leaving the park-and-ride on Route 17 in Roxbury up until 10 a.m.

He said a third of the proceeds will benefit area recreation projects. As of Thursday afternoon, Theriault said Black Mountain Ski Resort was the only project the club had agreed on, though more are likely to come.

The rest of the proceeds will be raffled off to a “lucky winner,” he said.

The benefit ride is the only public event planned this year, he said, and the club has not discussed whether it will become annual.
