OQUOSSOC — The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust annual meeting will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Rangeley Region Guides & Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse.
Logging Museum Hall of Fame
RANGELEY — Richard A. Hale will be inducted into the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum’s Logger’s Hall of Fame on Friday, July 26, during the 33rd annual Logging Festival’s evening program which begins at 7 p.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Main Street.
Born in 1921 in Lisbon Falls, Hale began work as a logger around his hometown in 1948. By that time, he had graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, served in the Army and earned a Master of Forestry from Yale University. He worked in the woods until 1960, also operating a portable circular saw mill.
From 1966 to 1990, he taught forestry at the University of Maine, Orono. Many Rangeley area foresters, including Mark Beauregard, Frank Conlon, Pete Johnson and Trish and Michael Quinn, studied with him.
In 1967, he married Jan Dumont of Lewiston. Their daughter, Heather Hale-Nivus, son-in-law, David Nivus, and granddaughters, Corinne and Jocelyn, live in Bethel.
Movie, fireflies at Mt. Blue park
WELD — The movie, “We Bought the Zoo,” will be shown at 8 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Mount Blue State Park amphitheater.
A program on fireflies by Jocelyn Hubbell will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the amphitheater.
Old Cemetery group’s meeting
BROOKS — The Maine Old Cemetery Association will hold its second 2013 program day and meeting on Saturday, July 27, at the Harvest Home Grange No. 52, 84 Moosehead Trail Highway, Route 7. The public is invited.
Ray Quimby’s illustrated presentation will be “Brooks: Then & Now.” Also presenting will be Linda Lord, Maine State Librarian, who will discuss “Cemetery information at the Maine State Library.” Dan Mulcahey, Ret. Command Sgt. Major, will tell the group about Brooks’ new veterans memorial, and Betty Littlefield, a Brooks Historical Society founding member and current president, will share information about the society. “An Overview of Some Brooks’ Cemeteries” will be presented just before lunch and after lunch attendees will visit several cemeteries.
From 8:30 a.m. until noon there will be exhibits and displays. Attendees are invited to display information about cemetery-related projects. Registration is from 8:30 until 9:10 a.m. and the cost is $3 at the door. Questions should be directed to Cheryl Willis Patten at cwpatten@tds.net.

Book sale at Ditzler Library
NEW SHARON — A book sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Jim Ditzler Memorial Library.
Donations will be accepted for full bags.
Some items include romance, mysteries, novels, westerns, large print, nonfiction, children’s books, books on cassette and VHS videos.
