FARMINGTON — Velma Arlene Hammond Pearson, 107, of New Sharon, passed gently away Friday, July 19, while residing at Pinewood Terrace.

She was born in New Sharon, Sept. 3, 1905, the daughter of George and Nellie (Greenleaf) Hammond. She was educated in the New Sharon schools and graduated from New Sharon High School in 1924.

Velma was an avid bridge player for many years and was known for her tatting, knitting and crocheting of many afghans. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Messalunskit Chapter 170 in New Sharon and the New Sharon United Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Jayne Browning; three grandchildren, Sherry Ames, Tim Browning and Karen Dove; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Velma was predeceased by her husband, Herman O. Pearson.
