OXFORD — Members of the Mollyockett Chorus entertained over 300 people with the close harmony of barbershop style music July 12 and 13 with two shows at the Sawyer Memorial and one at the Denmark Arts Center.

The 18-member, all-female vocal group presented “The Ockett Family Plans a Vacation” as its annual road show. The premise of the show was that the 17 members were sisters (all named Molly) who were together planning their first ever family vacation, but being unable to decide what kind of vacation to take.

Under the direction of Wanda Foss of Sabattus, the group sang four-part harmony to familiar tunes including Ain’t that Good News and Old Cape Cod, among others.

The barbershop harmony chorus includes the following members from Bethel, Rumford, Waterford, Lovell, Norway, South Paris, Oxford, Hebron, Bridgton and Sabattus: Deborah Andrews, Cheryl Barker, Andrea Bennett, Vicky Carpenter, Merry Childs, Janet Coverdale, Joan Erler, Jolan Ippolito, Marge Kimball, Susan Leunig, Deborah Luxton, Donna Marcinuk, Nancy McNulty, Marylin Newell, Debra Nichols and Janet Ward.

Meant to Be, a quartet within the chorus, performed their renditions of Hernando’s Hideaway, You’ll Never Know, Country Roads, and Da Doo Ron Ron. The quartet members are Childs, Ward, Bonnie Fox and Leunig.

The Mollyockett Chorus is a Region 1 Chapter of the Sweet Adelines International. They have been singing barbershop harmony — a musical style sung without accompaniment by bass, baritone, lead, and tenor voices since 1996. The chorus rehearses in Oxford each Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. beginning in early September through the end of July taking the month of August off. New members are always welcomed.
