NEW SHARON — Two local firefighters were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital after fighting a mobile home fire late Saturday afternoon on Glen Harris Road.
The men were probably overcome by the heat, New Sharon Fire Chief Eric Webster said at the scene. They were treated at the hospital and released, Webster said.
A mobile home, believed to be abandoned, was fully in flames when the local fire department arrived, he said. Webster was not sure who owned the property. A passing firefighter spotted the blaze and called it in, Webster said.
The fire was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday. Glen Harris Road is off Route 134.
The structure was a total loss, Webster said.
Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were expected to inspect the property Saturday night in an effort to determine the cause and area of origin of the fire, Webster said.
Along with help from NorthStar ambulance, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, the New Sharon fire department received mutual aid from Farmington, Temple, Wilton, Chesterville, and Industry fire departments.
