Just before 10:30 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Point Sebago Resort on Sebago Lake for a report that someone had been thrown from a moving golf cart, according to a release from Capt. Shawn O’Leary.

John Mackay, 52, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries in the crash, was airlifted by LifeFlight of Maine and taken to Maine Medical Center.

Gary Belinsky, 59, of Westford, Mass., the operator of the golf cart, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, according to O’Leary. Belinsky was taken to Cumberland County Jail. His bail was set at $300.

Mackay’s condition was not immediately available Sunday morning.
