AUBURN — A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. will arrive Sunday, Aug. 18, to examine all aspects of the Auburn Police Department’s office policies and procedures, management, operations and support services, according to Chief Phillip L. Crowell Jr.

The visit is part of a voluntary process to verify that the department continues to meet the commission’s standards for law enforcement re-accreditation.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 5 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 20, in the City Council Chambers at Auburn Hall.

Comments can also be provided by phone; call the CALEA assessors directly at 333-6650, ext. 2055, between 1 and 3 p.m. Aug. 20.

Telephone and in-person comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Police Department.

Written comments can also be made by writing to CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.

More information on CALEA is also available by calling 703-352-4225 or emailing calea@calea.org.
