LEWISTON — The Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program recognized six third-year family medicine residents at recent graduation exercises.

Honored at the commencement program were family physicians Adam L. Duquette, D.O., Emily M. Fontaine, M.D., Michael M. Johns, M.D., Christopher T. Kitchens, D.O., Shayna Lemke, D.O., and Gonzalo E. Ruiz, M.D. Residency Program Director Donald Woolever, M.D., along with the Family Medicine Residency faculty, presented the graduates with their diplomas.

Family medicine hospitalist fellows Mark Grohman, D.O., and Swapna Gummadi, M.D., were also recognized at the ceremony. Fellowship Director Claudia Geyer, M.D., presented them with diplomas.

Several awards were made during the ceremony, including the Dr. Bruce Johnson Residency Teacher of the Year Award, which was given to John Dickens, M.D., for the second consecutive year. This award honors the physician who was voted by graduating senior residents as making the most outstanding contribution to their family medicine residency education.

Faculty of the Year: Thomas Hattan, M.D., CMMC geriatric and palliative care

Community Preceptor of the Year: Norman Guay, D.O., Mercy Primary Care, Yarmouth

Community Teacher of the Year: Tim McAteer, M.D., Central Maine Sports Medicine

Most Inspiring Caregiver: Jackie Fournier, N.P., CMMC palliative care

Nurse of the Year: Kayleigh Daley, M.A ., CMMC Family Medicine Residency

Best Elective: Nancy Egan, M.D., Brunswick Dermatology

Rural Track Nurse of the Year: Sootie Brown, L.P.N., Swift River Family Medicine, Rumford

Several of the 2013 graduates expect to practice in Maine. Adam Duquette, D.O., and Christopher T. Kitchens, M.D., have joined Family Health Care Associates in Auburn. Shayna Lemke, D.O., will practice with North Bridgton Family Practice in Bridgton. Swapna Gummadi, M.D., has joined the Central Maine Medical Group hospitalist staff. Mark Grohman, D.O., has joined Southern Maine Medical Center Hospitalists in Biddeford. Emily Fontaine, M.D., and Gonzalo Ruiz, M.D., are each planning to practice in Oregon or Alaska. Michael Johns, M.D., expects to practice in Seattle.
