SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) — Maine police have shot and killed a fox suspected of attacking five people in South Portland.

Lt. Todd Bernard said the fox will be tested by state health officials but is believed to be rabid.

The attacks began at 6 a.m. Tuesday when a man reported that a fox jumped into the cab of his pickup truck and bit him on the arm in a Home Deport parking lot.

A jogger then told police he was attacked but was able to kick the fox away without being bitten. A man and a woman who were camping in nearby woods then reported that they’d been bitten.

Later, a fox chased a man into a nearby office building, where it was trapped in a foyer until police retrieved it.
