1928 – 2013
BIDDEFORD — Evangeline Audrey Forrester, 85, started her journey as E. Audrey Powers on August 15, 1928, in Rangeley and completed it with our Lord on Thursday, June 25, in Biddeford. Ah, but what a journey.
She was educated in Biddeford, completing a high school degree while being raised with her three brothers, Everett, Richard and Paul. Upon entering the work force, she met and married Ernest Johnson and became primarily a homemaker for Ernest and their sons, Charles and Russell Johnson.
They traveled extensively and Audrey found time to pursue her hobbies of drawing, watercolors and hiking, which included a portion of the Appalachian Trail. She stressed the importance of education with her children, in spite of their best efforts to convince her otherwise.
After Ernest Johnson died in 1984, Audrey returned to her “home” — Biddeford. She renewed friendships and family ties and met her husband, Everett Forrester. During this time, Audrey became involved with the Penobscot Nation, for she was part Penobscot and fiercely proud of this. During this time, Audrey also overcame several major illnesses, including cancer.
She is survived by husband, Everett Forrester; sons, Charles (Jane) and Russell (Jo); grandchildren, Sara, Chris, Brittany, Emily and Eric Johnson; brother, Richard Powers; and cousins, Donald Turgeon, Dolores Morin and Robert Hodge.
Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Irene (Turgeon) Powers; brothers, Everett and Paul Powers; and her husband, Ernest Johnson.
