ROXBURY — The Roxbury ATV Riders will hold a ride Sunday, Aug. 4, to benefit Autism Awareness of Maine.
Club President Mike Worthley said at least 100 riders are expected to participate in the 40-mile, four-hour ride.
“It’s a great cause,” he said. “I know kids and adults with autism.”
Participants are asked to register at the Roxbury Park and Ride near the Ellis River Variety store on Route 120 before 9 a.m. Each driver and rider is asked to pay a $10 fee. Anyone under age 18 must wear a helmet.
The riders will travel up the access road to the wind turbine project, then on to Coos Canyon in Byron, and complete the ride at the Mexico Recreation Park. There, a disc jockey will spin records until 5 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and other foods will be available for purchase.
Worthley said a central Maine ATV club sponsored a ride to benefit Autism Awareness of Maine last year. He hopes another club will continue the benefit ride next year.
The club held a toy ride in July and another ride to benefit the Rumford Group Home on Memorial Day weekend.
Upcoming rides include:
* Aug. 10, Roxbury ATV Riders will provide rides to clients of the HOPE Association. Club members will meet at Worthley’s home on 1162 Roxbury Notch Road, where lunch will be served to the clients.
* Aug. 24, Roxbury ATV Riders will join others in Thomaston to benefit Feed the Hungry.
* Aug. 31 ride for children’s welfare.
* Sept. 7, Roxbury ATV Riders will join others in Cambridge for a night ride through cornfields to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
* Oct. 5, a local fall foliage ride will benefit the club.
Others may be scheduled.
