AUBURN — The Auburn School Committee will take up the elimination of bus driver positions when it meets Wednesday.

The transportation jobs are being eliminated as part of the school department’s privitatizing of school bus drivers and other transportation staff to Northeast Charter. Auburn Superintendent Kate Grondin said positions eliminated include 23 bus drivers, 3 bus aids and one mechanic. Grondin has said she hoped some would be hired by Northeast.

Savings from the move will be $300,000 a year, Grondin said. The first-year savings will be $100,000 due to severance packages and legal fees.

The board will also hear an overview of a new law about teacher and principal evaluations.

The committee meets at 7 p.m. in the council chambers of Auburn Hall.
