NORWAY/OTISFIELD — The Center for an Ecology-Based Economy will host a two-day introduction to Permaculture Principles from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, and Sunday, Aug. 18.

The Saturday session will take place in Norway at CEBE next to Fare Share Coop on Main Street and at the Alan Day Community Garden. On Sunday the class will move to Moose Pond Arts+Ecology in Otisfield.

Permaculture is an evolving design methodology and growing global movement to build sustainability and resiliency at the home- and community-scale. It is a positive response to ecosystem degradation, resource depletion and climate instability.

The focus for the course this year will be on growing food at the human-scale and building resilient local food systems, but will also touch on green building, reducing fossil fuel dependence and increasing quality of life as we do it.

Combining classroom and field work, this hands-on workshop will explore working definitions of permaculture, discuss its history and ethics, and outline basic permaculture principles, strategies and techniques as they apply to both rural and urban locations.

Instructors will be Scott Vlaun and Shawn Kane of CEBE and the Moose Pond Permaculture Collective.
