Free healthy eating class

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free healthy eating class for anyone interested in learning more about nutritious food. Feast from the Farm Market will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

This class will feature a fresh and local flair. Dempsey Center dietitian Judy Donnelly will prepare a variety of locally grown food, including produce from the Dempsey Center Community Garden, in ways that decorate the plate, please taste buds and boost nutrition. There will be lots of nutrition information related to the foods being prepared and how they benefit health.

Pickwick Club meets Aug. 24

Pig roast set for Aug. 24

POWNAL — The North Pownal United Methodist Church will host a pig roast from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at 851 Lawrence Road .

Advance tickets are available for $10 for adults, 13 years and up; $5 for 5 to 12 years; and no charge for under 4 years.

Tickets at the door will be $12 for adults, $7 for 5 to 12 years and no charge for under 4 years.

Menu will include pork, assorted sides, rolls, blueberry desserts and beverages. Hamburgers will be available instead of pork.

Bartending course at CMCC

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer a bartending course from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 11 through Nov. 13.

The cost is $379 and includes all materials. Students will learn the basics of professional bartending and mixology and its application in restaurants, clubs and function facilities. This course also includes the “Maine Course,” a six-hour seminar in the responsible service of alcohol required by the State of Maine Liquor Commission and the Department of Human Services.
