DIXFIELD — The Board of Selectmen voted 3-1 Monday night to elect Norman Mitchell to the Planning Board as an alternate member .

Town Manager Linda Pagels-Wentworth said Tuesday afternoon that the board voted by secret ballot, choosing Mitchell over another candidate.

The opening on the board came after Cindy Lou Paine stepped down as a member and alternate Richard Pickett took her seat.

In other business, selectmen rejected a request from the town of Carthage for Dixfield to pick up one of its snow routes.

“Carthage recently requested that we plow some of their back roads during the winter,” Pagels-Wentworth said. “After some discussion and looking at the character of the roads, we decided that it just wasn’t a good fit for us.”

The board tentatively set 5 p.m. Aug. 16 for a presentation on having an outside group visit the town to measure the efficiency of the town.

“The whole idea . . . is for them to help us figure out ways we can provide the maximum amount of customer service and where we can improve to help us get there,” Pagels-Wentworth said. “One of the things they do is a waste walk, which is where they walk through our organization and find things that we can improve on.”
