Gardner’s passion is clay. With her exhibition “The Perfect Tea” she demonstrates her endeavor to find the perfect balance between function, beauty and comfort in handmade teapots. “When tea is served,” she observd, “the visual effect of the vessel should be as rewarding as the actual tea itself.”
With no desire to mass produce pottery, she devoted the past 20 years exclusively to wheel-thrown stoneware and porcelain clay with added sculptural elements. The beautifully glazed and oxidation-fired vessels remind one of smooth, round tea drops seeking their perfect pot.
Travers is exhibiting two installation projects he has been working on for nearly 10 years. The Dream Tablets are large-scale encaustic pieces painted on panels with oils and beeswax. The Medicine Cabinets were constructed of wood and include found objects. Both projects require manipulation by the viewer and, in some cases, participation giving the show its title “Touch This Art.”
