Dental hygienist Cindy Leavitt, left, cleans Angela Brown’s teeth as Zak Kofos observes at Trinity Jubilee Center on Thursday morning. “Zak Kofos has been part of the Bates Public Health Initiative, a group of students who volunteer at the Free Medical Clinic at the Jubilee Center and help develop programs and initiatives,” said Erin Reed from Trinity. “He has been focusing on dental health and has already helped with an oral cancer screening and now today was able to bring Healthy Smiles for ME.” The free clinic served around 20 people in four hours and Kofos said he would like to try expanding services the next time. Kofos, a Bates graduate, is applying to dental schools. “There is no one for them to go,” said Leavitt as she cleaned Brown’s teeth.
