DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Congregational Church will hold its first quilt show and tea party in conjunction with the Dixfield Outdoor Market this weekend.

The show is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

Resident Deb Morang, who is also a member of the Dixfield Outdoor Market organizing committee, said the idea for the quilt show stemmed from the Ladies of the Lake quilting group from Rumford.

“The ladies in that quilting group did a quilt show at their church and it was just gorgeous,” Morang said. “Recently, when we were throwing out some fundraising ideas at the church, we thought it’d be fun to combine a quilt show and a tea party.”

The price of admission for the quilt show is $3, according to Morang, and $5 for the tea luncheon that will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon will include light sandwiches, a fancy dessert and drinks.

“Lyman and Lucille Holman donated tea cups to the church, and we’ll be using them for the event,” Morang said.

For the show, Morang said quilts were donated from church members and residents alike. Members of the Ladies of the Lake quilting club even donated some of their quilted items to display at the church.

“The Ladies of the Lake have been very, very supportive of us as we try to get our first quilt show going,” Morang said. “They’ve helped us out with setting up and have given us tips on what to do or what not to do.”

Proceeds will go toward the Christian Education Department of the church.

“Some of the money will go toward expenses of the church, but the education department needs money for Vacation Bible School each year,” Morang said. “There’s also Sunday School curriculum that we need to pay for. This will help us pay for that.”

A raffle will be held at 2 p.m., with items such as a hanging quilt and a basket filled with sewing items.

There will also be a “fairy house” display for children.
