NEWPORT — Police are searching for a man who robbed a bank on Thursday afternoon.
A white male entered Key Bank on Main Street along Route 2 at 2:15 p.m. Thursday and left with an undisclosed amount of cash, said Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid.
“An individual walked into the bank and basically requested money and then left on foot,” said Macdaid.
Macdaid would not say whether the man displayed a weapon.
Police are asking for the public’s help identifying and finding the subject.
The suspect is described as a 5-foot-10-inch white male with average build. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, dark blue shirt with a collar and blue jeans. He has a thick black beard and mustache.
The man may have left in a small, older-model blue vehicle, he said.
Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect is asked to call the Newport Police Department at 368-3263.
