BETHEL — The West Parish Congregational Church will be holding a community potluck dinner and food drive at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 to help spread awareness of what local food groups are bringing to the community, and to help the Bethel Food Pantry.
Church member Jane Chandler said that the potluck dinner will start at 6 p.m. and will be followed by presentations from a number of local groups, including the Maine Harvest for Hunger in Rumford and the 4-H Camp and Learning Center in Bryant Pond.
“We have a lot of different groups coming in to talk about what they’re doing in the community,” Chandler said. “We’ll also be hearing from some people helping with the community gardens.”
Chandler said that residents should bring any dish they want to the potluck, adding that the church asked people to bring a donation of canned goods or paper goods, such as paper towels or toilet paper.
“We’re doing a food drive for the Bethel Food Pantry,” Chandler explained. “Anything that is brought to us will go towards helping the pantry.”
The West Parish Congregational Church will continue to collect food for the food pantry on Oct. 6, when they will hold their eighth annual CROP walk.
