AUBURN — Auburn Adult and Community Education is taking registration for fall courses. Below is a sample of some of the offerings. The full list can be found in the brochure or at www.auburn.maineadulted.org.
Computer Basics: Overwhelmed by a computer? Need to improve your computer skills? Skills taught include, but are not limited to, mouse skills, navigating files and folders, launching programs, creating, opening and saving files, word processing and spreadsheets, going online, emailing, searching the Internet and whatever students ask about. Personal laptops welcome. Course begins Sept. 9 and meets Mondays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for five weeks.
Art of Watercolor is just right for beginners to semi-pro. Art instructor Barbara Hathaway, “Painter of Sunsets,” is a certified registered teacher with the Michael Wilcox School of Colour. The techniques used will quickly make landscapes with sky, sunsets, mountains, trees, water and reflections. Others objects can be added for detail. Have fun mixing colors. Watch a demo and paint along. Paint a composition that you can mat to give as a gift, sell or hang. Students work at their own speed and can use their own photos as inspiration. Course starts Sept. 10 and meets Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for five weeks.
Ballroom Dancing – Beginning: Learn the basics of three popular ballroom dances: foxtrot, waltz and swing. These steps will have you dancing in no time. Come with a partner for a fun night out. The registration fee is $90 per couple. Course starts Sept. 11 and meets Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. for five weeks.
Budgeting and Money Management: Learn Young, Retain For Life: Whether you’ve ever developed a personal/household budget or not, you will learn to apply a time-tested process to develop and manage a realistic, practical and flexible budget, avoid late fees, pay down credit card debt and gain control over your own finances. Bring a calculator and the checkbook used to pay bills. No personal information will be shared with others. Starts Sept. 17 and meets Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for three weeks.
Cardio Fitness Boot Camp: Students will participate in a variety of conditioning, cardio, weight training and other cross-training activities. This course is designed for adults at all levels of fitness. Starts Sept. 3, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for seven weeks.
Woodworking: Create projects of your choice with guidance and assistance from the instructor. In the process, learn the safe use of a wide variety of hand and power tools. A general familiarity with tools is helpful. We provide the space and equipment. You provide the plans, materials and enthusiasm. Class starts Sept. 19 and meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for 12 weeks.
Information night for certificate programs: The Academy of Medical Professions will offer a free information session at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Edward Little High School.
