POLAND — Poland Regional High School graduate Paxton Arsenault has been awarded a $1,000 Banking on the Future Scholarship from Mechanics Savings Bank. Paxton is the daughter of Terri and Michael Arsenault.

Within the next few weeks she will begin her journey toward earning a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and occupational therapy at the University of New England in Biddeford. Her career goal is to become an occupational therapist specializing in working with children.

While attending Poland Regional High School, Arsenault served on the student judiciary board, prom committee, graduation committee, class trip committee and civil rights group. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a recipient of the William’s College Book Award, varsity soccer coach’s award and two Spanish awards.

Paxton volunteered as a youth soccer coach and scholastic mentor. She also worked at a local after-school daycare program.

For more than 20 years, Mechanics Savings Bank has provided scholarships to assist high school seniors bound for college or technical school with their higher education goals. This year, the Banking on the Future Scholarship program awarded $17,000 to students from local high schools, including Edward Little, Lewiston, Saint Dominic, Leavitt, Lisbon, Monmouth, Oak Hill, Poland, Gray- New Gloucester, Brunswick and Windham.
